We Are Familiar with Customs

Ever since our founding years we have acted as customs agents; this service has been put into practice for Cleve’s clientele to their full satisfaction; clearing and releasing goods is very familiar territory for us which enables us to provide excellent services in this area.

AEO Certification

Due to our many years of customs expertise we have been able to build up a strong professional relationship with the customs authorities. Also, Cleve & Zonen has been AEO certified since 2010; please visit the websites of the customs authorities or the tax authorities for more information about the AEO Certification. ‘Horizontal Supervision’

In 2011, Cleve came to an agreement on ‘horizontal supervision’ with the tax authorities in the Netherlands. This means that we have a relationship with the tax authorities based on trust, understanding and transparency. In 1975, when I started working at Cleve, we were a small shipping agent with little perspective. We had to compete with the big freight agents, after all. That's why we decided to focus on container groupage services. With great success, since we are now market leader in The Netherlands. Unlike our competitors, we choose our agents ourselves, so we only work with the best partners that offer services that our customers need.

I started working for the company when the children started going to school. I started off as an allrounder on various departments. I ended up in payroll administration and, to this day, love doing that. As a company, you have to keep up with time: I have seen processes change over the years. Everything is faster and more efficient nowadays. I have now passed retirement age so I can decide which hours and days I work myself, but I can't stand the thought of quitting work yet.

Our sector is constantly changing. The best thing about my work is the variety: I interact with people from all over the world, deal with damage claims and am a member of the management team. The transport sector never stays the same, so my work and I continuesly grow along with these developments. That's why I have love working for Cleve for more than 30 years already now.

When I started working at Cleve in 1976, everything was much smaller: there were three of us and we started out in a 'drive-in' home in Pendrecht. This is when the groupage era began. Since then I have witnessed Cleve grow into the international transporter it is today. Still, the family atmosphere from the early days always remained present.

In 1982 I joined Cleve. The accountant at the time taught me the tricks of the trade. It was just the two of us then, so that's a little different now. Today, there are 12 financial specialists and the entire administration has been automated. In short, both the company and the expertise have developed widely and I was given the opportunity to grow along with it. It's been very nice to experience that.

We grew up alongside Cleve. Our father often took us to the office where we did small chores to earn some money. We picked up the phone, put stamps on the departure lists and riped off telex messages. In this respect, our family business hasn't changed much: nowadays we ourselves take our sons and daughters to work with us sometimes. Both our husbands are working within the company as well.
